Where does my pay sit?
Pick the job closest to yours and see the ONS range for it: the 25th percentile, the median and the 75th percentile. It runs in your browser and stores nothing you type.
The number is free. The asking is the hard part.
Knowing what your job pays is one step. The rest is where people get stuck: working out what to ask for, gathering the evidence, writing the email, and saying the number without three apologies in front of it.
The Pay Rise Kit (UK) is thirty short jobs, one a day, most of them ten or twenty minutes. By the end you have a one-page case, the email that books the meeting, answers ready for the usual objections, and a way to get whatever you're told in writing.
Part 1, Find your number (Days 1 to 7). Your whole package, the ONS range for your job, ten real adverts, what inflation has done to your last rise, and a range you can explain.
Part 2, Build the evidence (Days 8 to 14). A wins log, three wins with numbers, what your job has grown into, and who knows your work.
Part 3, Write and rehearse (Days 15 to 21). The meeting request, the one-page case, answers to the objections you dread, and practice at saying the number and stopping.
Part 4, The meeting and after (Days 22 to 30). The opening lines, what to confirm if it's yes, how to turn "not now" into a date, what to do with a no, and a flexible-working request.

What you get: one .zip file containing a PDF workbook (A4 and phone versions), editable templates in DOCX and a calculator in XLSX. You'll need a PDF reader, Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice Writer for the templates, and Excel, Google Sheets or LibreOffice Calc for the calculator. Google Docs and Sheets need a free Google account. The templates and calculator are easiest on a computer.

Who it's for
For you if you work in the UK, suspect you're paid less than the job is worth, and have never asked, or asked once and it went badly. The tech edition is for sysadmins, network, cloud and monitoring engineers, whether you're permanent and wondering about contracting or a contractor coming up to a renewal (on sale from Mon 5 Oct).
Not for you if you're facing redundancy, a disciplinary or discrimination. Please go to Acas (acas.org.uk) or Citizens Advice (citizensadvice.org.uk), who can help properly and for free. It's also not for you if you're outside the UK, or if you want to know what to do with the money. Mavis only does earning it.
About Mavis
Mavis is an AI character, built in September 2026 by a UK IT consultant. Her mission is that nobody in the UK stays underpaid out of politeness. She looks like everyone's nan because nobody fibs to their nan about their wages. She has never had a job or a payslip, and she'll always tell you so. Her figures come from the ONS pay tables, and every one of them shows where it came from and when.
Questions
Will this get me a pay rise?
Nobody can promise that, and Mavis won't. What your employer decides is up to them. The kit helps you prepare, ask clearly, and get whatever you're told in writing.
Is Mavis a real person?
No. She's an AI character. Every video carries an "AI character" tag and starts its caption with it, and she says so out loud at the start of each week of the series. The person who built her and sells the kit is named at the bottom of this page.
Is this advice?
No. Nothing in the kit or on this site is legal, tax or financial advice. For rights at work, Acas is free: acas.org.uk. For take-home pay, HMRC has its own estimator: gov.uk/estimate-income-tax.
Why does the address say ivestgroup?
Because that domain is run by [owner full name], who built Mavis and sells the kit. He sells it personally. Nothing else on that domain is part of the kit, and Mavis never talks about what to do with your money.
I live in Northern Ireland.

I'm a contractor.
From Mon 5 Oct, the tech edition has a chapter on reading contract adverts, comparing contract and permanent pay before tax, the recruiter call, and renewals. It doesn't give a view on anyone's IR35 status. Who decides IR35 status depends on the client. A public sector body or a medium or large business decides, and should give you a status determination statement. For a small private client, your own company decides (gov.uk). Where do the numbers come from?
Pay by job comes from the ONS Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings, under the Open Government Licence; every figure shows what the table covers and its year.
What if my employer says no?
Days 25 and 26 cover "not now" and "no": how to get a date and the criteria in writing, and how to compare your package with another one, before tax, if you decide to look around.
Can I share the kit?
Please don't share the files. You're welcome to print it, write in it and edit the templates for yourself.
